Wal ......da bläst er - Pico am 15. Mai 2010

Heute war ein neuer grandioser Tag bei den Bartenwale. Egal wohin der Blick am Horizont schweifte waren Blase zu sehen.

Zunächst war es ein Pottwal der vor uns abtauchte.



Dann ging es weiter mit einem Seiwal der im vom Krill rot gefärbten Meer am fressen war.




Der Gelbschnabelsturmtaucher hilft beim Fressen mit denn diese Vögel können bis 15m tief tauchen. Sie fressen auch die kleinen Krebstiere aber auch die kleinen Fische die wiederum die Krebse fressen.








Gemeinde Delphine fressen auch mit. Allerdings nicht die Garnelen sondern die kleinen Fische. meist sind das Bastardmakrelen.



Und dann tauchte dieser gewaltige Blauwal auf, die Barten weit aufgerissen....und mit fast 15 Knoten Geschwindigkeit.....
einfach phantastisch.....








und hier sehen wir eine Blauwalmutter mit Nachwuchs.



die dann abtaucht und den Nachwuchs trainiert wie tauchen so richtig funktioniert.







In gut 14 Tagen ist die Saison der Giganten zu Ende aber wir freuen uns bereits aufs nächste Jahr. Mein Tipp !!!!!

Excellent Baleen Whale season

This year is an excellent year for the big baleen whales.
Today we went out in the morning. After 10 Minutes we found a group of Bottlenose Dolphins in front of the Port Calhau. About 50 individuals were around.

But Antero, our Vigia, called us to move on.
After 20 minutes we saw the first blow on the horizon but when we looked we saw more and more blows everywhere.
The seas are red from the krill. Horse Makarels come to feed on this food as well as the Shearwaterbirds.
Whales are feeding on both, Krill and the Makarels.
First we spotted some Seiwhales but again Antero told us to move on ....

.......after a short while we understood wyh Antero told us to leave the Seiwhales

.......about 3 blows of bluewhales .....

more than 25m long and almost not moving.
Beside some Finwhales joining them.....what a peacefull situation.

We stayed more than 2 hours with the giants of the sea. And even a Blue Whale Baby appeared to join the party.......

On our way back to Madalena we stopped with a group of Rissos dolphins,
5 species in this trip

and I almost forgot the sea turtle feeding on a portuguese man of war......



And in this moment when I upload this text the Vigia is calling in my office.....Sperm Whales sighted
and we are leaving at 16:00 for another trip
