Wayne Osborne made 460 nautical miles looking for Moby Dick.

We reported already about Wayne Osborne and Wade Hughes beeing with us again this year. We are thankfull for the data tracks they transmitted. You can see the miles they made and where we worked. Not logged are the uncounted drops into the water and the climbs on board that are necessary to get excellent pictures like this.

There are 27 recorded species of Cetacea recorded in Azorean waters. This is a meeting point for whales and dolphins and us. Sometimes the encounters are inbelievable. These wonderfull creatures allow us to visit them in their home. They excist since more than 60 Millions of years on this planet while human beeings have been recordet not older than 1.5 Millions. While they allow us to be with them without agressions and harm, we distroy their habitat. We say that we love them so much but we kill them. We polute their world and we allow upcomming countrys to do so.

Wayne Osborne signed up for a wildlife safari that start next January 17th in our new Rhino Watch Safari Lodge in Kenya. Its a meeting of some great photographers at that time and i am sure we will be able to present you in February some wonderfull pictures. Contact us if you want to join us at Pico, in Kenya or in Patagonia.

Northern Bottlenose Whales around

During July and August we have the best sighting of Northern Bottlenose Whales. Our biologist Annette was lucky to take a picture from this group.

Copula below the boat

Ronny was lucky today when he put his Camera into the Water. Sperm whales had a copula right below our boat.

Big Jump

Atlantic spooted dolphins arrive in our waters in June and they stay until September. They travel in groups up to 500 animals. They like jumping. This shoots are from Thiery Eidenweil. We estimated a hight of 5 Meter.
Only the striped dolphins is able to jump higher. With a maximum of 7m he is even the world Champion in High jumpinng.

Pico Sport and our guests

This web cam shot was sent by Egon Goebel. It looks like Captain Kirk is ready to beam down his crew to sign up at Pico Sport for a Whale Watching Tour. Does this mean that our Whale watching tours are out of this world (-:
Our crew means YES.

Because we have a 99 % success in finding the whales along the coasts of Pico.

Thank you to Doro and Klaus Bayer for the pictures.

The colours of Pico

Diese Bilder wurden uns von Birgit Pähler gesendet. Pico ist rundherum farbenprächtig und hat für Fotografen hinter jeder Ecke etwas zu bieten. Nicht nur auf dem Meer.

The ultimate hydrophone contest...

Wade (right) and Pam each with the home-developed hydrophone technology... With both we had excellent sound output during our time with the sperm whales and could imagine what they were doing while we were trying to get a few insights into their world.

Summer at Pico

Beautiful things not only in the water...

Sperm Whale in the Deep Blue

There is no other place in the world where you can see so many spermwhales. We carry out professional work for photographers and Film teams since many years. Here are the results from the last days of Thiery Eidenweil. Enjoy it with us and hang out a while in the Deep Blue

Ready to dive. A Bull of 18m will dive more than 1 hour to hunt on giant squid in 2.500 m deep blue Ocean.

Wade Hughes & Wayne Osborne in Pico waters

For 10 days we had the pleasure to work with Wade Hughes, Wayne Osborne and their company for underwater and surface shots of cetaceans around Pico island. We mainly concentrated on the big sperm whales groups that we have here at the moment, but we also got some nice other encounters... Everything is possible and you never know what happens :) See the following pictures.

The underwater work demands more physical effort than the shooting from the boat...

Can you see Wade swimming behind the fluke??? Nice perspective hm...

We could have some close looks at the sperm whales... A big adult speeding up in front of the boat, and later a curious baby approaching the boat. And then some spyhopping to check out the boat... what are these guys doing in our territory?? :)
